The Junos Are Coming to Halifax

Halifax is once again the site for a major event. The 2006 Juno Awards, Canada’s premier music event, will be held in Halifax from March 31-April 2, 2006.

The event will create national attention for Halifax and the economic profits are estimated at $34 million in event spin-offs. The Junos have produced a huge economic impact for host cities in the past. In Edmonton 2004, the Junos generated $25 million and in 2002, St. John’s total reached $29 million in direct and in-direct spin-offs.

Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences president Melanie Berry made the announcement on January 18 at the World Trade & Convention Centre. “Being a Junos host city is a unique opportunity to show who you are, what you have to offer and why you’re on the map.”

The awards show and events will create many opportunities for local businesses and also give fans the chance to celebrate Canadian music.
