Social Media Policy

Greater Halifax Partnership shares information, images, and video with the public through external social media sites (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Slideshare and LinkedIn). Communicating with us through these social media sites enables you to contact us in a direct and meaningful way. We want to hear from you.

Comments made by the public on these sites are reviewed by Greater Halifax Partnership. While Greater Halifax Partnership will not edit comments, we may delete a comment if it:

  • Does not directly relate to the posted topic on the social media page
  • Promotes or advertises a commercial product or business
  • Promotes or opposes any person campaigning for election to political office
  • Uses obscene, threatening, or harassing language
  • Is a personal attack or hate speech that targets or disparages any ethnic, racial, age or religious group; gender; sexual orientation; or disability status
  • Advocates illegal activity or violates copyright laws
Greater Halifax Partnership social media accounts are not meant for comments that do not directly relate to the purpose or topic of the social media website or for service complaints. For complaints, please contact greaterhalifax.com

Why do you moderate comments?
Our goal is to provide a substantive forum to encourage the exchange of information. We want our users to be able to voice their opinions and reactions to posted information. Obscene language, hate speech, solicitations, and off-topic posts will be moderated in accordance with our Social Media Policy.

Do you edit comments?
Comments are never edited. However, Greater Halifax Partnership reserves the right to delete a comment if it violates our Social Media Policy.

When and where will my comment display?
Comments will display immediately after they are posted in the comment section of the social media site. Greater Halifax Partnership does not moderate comments prior to posting.

What about user-created content?
Users are welcome to submit or post content, including photographs and videos, to Greater Halifax Partnership's social media sites where we allow users to post content, if the content meets the standards articulated in this Social Media Policy and if it pertains to the subject of the social media site. Users may only post their own, original content. Reproduced or borrowed content that reasonably appears to violate third party rights will be deleted.
